Jump into an unforgettable wildlife kayaking and brown bear viewing experience into the “Fortress of the Bears” on Admiralty Island. Meet your private guide and take off on a 25-minute scenic floatplane flight to Windfall Island. From here, jump in your kayaks and paddle to Pack Creek. This world-class wildlife viewing destination provides protected habitat for brown bears while affording visitors an opportunity to view and photograph wildlife up close. The Tlingit call Admiralty Island Kootznoowoo “Fortress of the Bears”, aptly named with approximately 1,800 brown bears – one of the highest bear densities anywhere on earth. Eagles are extraordinarily abundant along the shoreline, and the cries of loons haunt Admiralty’s lakes. This is truly one of the gemstones of Southeast Alaska.
From Windfall Island, kayak one mile to Pack Creek. Right at the mouth of the creek lies a sandy spit of land, one of the primary bear viewing locations, just a short beach hike from where floatplanes land and boats tie up. Slightly more challenging is a beautiful one-mile trail through an old-growth rain forest to a viewing tower. The tower has room for eight people and is an excellent place to watch bears as they roam directly below you.
