The ultimate Mendenhall Glacier adventure

On this 10-hour adventure tour combine hiking, ice trekking, glacier exploration, and ice climbing on the Mendenhall Glacier.

Your adventure begins at the cruise ship terminal. Meet your private guide and transfer to the Mendenhall Glacier trailhead where you are outfitted with gear. Next, hit the West Glacier Trail and hike about 4.5-miles through the Tongass National Rainforest. Keep your eyes open for wildlife – bears are commonly seen in the area. Climb over the last ridge, where incredible views of this river of ice loom before you.

The glacier’s surface is changing every day, which certain features disappearing and reappearing over the course of the season. This dynamic ice environment is not only extremely exclusive, but completely unique on the day you visit. Depending on today’s conditions, you may descend into crevasses carved by melt water, or peer into the deep blue well of a moulin.

After 3.5-hours exploring the glacier, hike back to the trailhead. Return to the cruise ship terminal with a sense of accomplishment, and lasting memories.
