While Alaska Private Touring works behind the scenes to design and coordinate your perfect visit to Alaska, there are a number of other people you may encounter during your journey who are at your service. These guides serve a variety of purposes, depending on the level of service you require.
Almost all of our private touring programs include the services of a private vehicle and driver. We refer to our drivers as driver/guides because they not only fulfill the role of driving you from point A to point B, but will also serve as your Alaska ‘host.’ During the driving portions of your tour, your driver/guide will share stories and knowledge of Alaska. Whether a transfer from airport to hotel or a touring day from Anchorage to Denali, our driver/guides are happy to share their passion for Alaska with you.
As your local host, your driver/guide does more than just provide transportation services. You can expect him/her to take things one step further by assisting with your luggage and making sure you get checked in for your various included services. And if you need some recommendations for dining, shopping, or sightseeing, your private driver/guide will be able to answer your questions.
For an even more elevated experience, you may wish to include a step-on guide to accompany you throughout your journey, in addition to the driver. A step-on guide performs all the roles of a driver/guide (except driving!) but taking things one step further by also accompanying you for most or all of your included excursions and services. Your personal step-on guide helps provide continuity throughout your visit by greeting you upon arrival, and accompanying you until they must reluctantly wish you ‘farewell’ upon your departure.
Excursion & Lodge Guides
As amazing as our guides are, they cannot do it all, so you will also receive the service and expertise of your excursion and lodge guides. Each excursion and activity in your itinerary will have its own guide, typically experts in their respective fields. Whether it is a guided Spencer Glacier hike, or a helicopter dog sled ride, your excursion guides will accompany you to ensure your safety and to share their knowledge, skill, and passion for Alaska.
If your Alaska visit includes a stay at a remote lodge, you will receive the hospitality and expertise of the lodge guides. There are a number of adventure activities available just outside your door when staying at one of our carefully chosen lodges, and you’ll be accompanied by friendly, informative, and well-trained guides every step of the way. When staying at a remote lodge we do not typically send your step-on guide with you for this portion of your itinerary, as we know you will be in good hands from the time of your arrival until you reluctantly say goodbye.
