Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2

Anchorage to Stillpoint Lodge by Floatplane

Meet your private driver in the lobby of your hotel after breakfast for a private transfer to Anchorage’s Lake Hood floatplane base – the busiest anywhere in the world.  Board your private plane for the scenic flight over Kenai Peninsula to the coastal waters of Kachemak Bay.  Your destination is secluded Halibut Cove where your ‘home away from home’ for the next several days awaits.  Your pilot will pull the plane alongside the Stillpoint Lodge dock and your luggage will be whisked away to your private room while you enjoy a meet and greet with your lodge hosts.  This afternoon there will be plenty of time for a quick excursion – perhaps a kayak or stand-up-paddle board adventure around the cove with your private guide.  This evening enjoy your first nightly reception and gourmet dinner.

Spend the next several nights at Stillpoint Lodge.

Day 6

Meet the Locals or Go Sightseeing by Floatplane

Meet the Locals

The seaside village of Halibut Cove near Stillpoint Lodge is rich with history. Many Halibut Cove residents are hardworking fisherman or artists (or both!) who exhibit their work seasonally at the local fine art galleries along the boardwalk. You can also discover delicious cuisine and local brews, and the allure of a place centered around a love of land and sea… hearty folk who have bravely settled in the last frontier, who understand that nature still reigns.

Sightseeing by Floatplane

Take off right from the dock in a float plane and see breathtaking Halibut Cove and Kachemak Bay from the air. Float over shellfish farms and commercial fisherman working their nets as you keep a lookout for whales and schools of salmon headed upstream. Learn all about the natural history of the area as you fly over gorgeous mountain fjords in search of bears, mountain goats and moose. Explore the beautiful Harding Ice Field full of glaciers, and if weather allows, you can head over the top of the ice field and catch a glimpse of the Gulf of Alaska.

Day 7

Sportfishing and Fly Fishing: Fresh Water or Salt

Hike in or fly in to a local river or mountain lake, or fly in via float plane or helicopter to visit hundreds of miles of surrounding area rivers and streams. Spend a day fishing for rainbow trout, dolly varden, arctic char, grayling or salmon depending on the season.

Stillpoint has all the gear and expert guides using spinning reels or fly fishing gear depending on the conditions and location.

Rainbow Trout Fishing

Fly in by floatplane to a beautiful nearby mountain lake for unlimited rainbow trout fishing. Fish from the shore or venture out in a super-stable inflatable double kayak with your guide to access the whole lake. The rainbows are usually biting well throughout the summer season.

Halibut Fishing

Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing is also offered full day or partial day on 6-passenger boats equipped with downriggers, trolling gear and light tackle rods and reels. Fish for five species of salmon in Kachemak Bay and you may keep what you catch as long as it is within the ADF&G limits.

“Coho” Silver Salmon Fishing

Fly in to a “secret”, remote fishing hot spot, on your way to an unforgettable fishing adventure catching delicious silver salmon. Silvers, also known as Coho, are the most acrobatic salmon and these are among the biggest you can fish for late August into September.
