Alaska's Basecamp for Winter Adventure!

Day 1

Arrive in Alaska's Winter Wonderland: Fairbanks

Touch down in Fairbanks, the heart of Alaska’s winter wonderland. You will be greeted by your private driver/guide and transferred to your Fairbanks hotel, located on the banks of the Chena River.

Overnight in Fairbanks for your first night.

Day 2

Journey to your Basecamp for the Northern Lights

Begin your winter adventure in Alaska with a private transfer to Borealis Basecamp, one of Alaska’s most unique resorts. Your private accommodations feature an igloo/yurt/cabin with a transparent dome facing the northern skies overlooking the boreal forest. These comfortable warm surroundings provide optimal viewing of the arctic winter scenery and the magnificent lightshows of the auroras, all in the privacy of your own domicile. Tonight, set out for an aurora photography tour with a private guide to learn how to capture the dancing lights on film.

Overnight at the Borealis Basecamp, you home for the next three nights.

Day 3

Borealis Basecamp Adventures: Dog Sledding and Snow Machines

The Basecamp not only serves as an epic aurora viewing destination but also offers a menu of active outdoor winter adventures to transport you deep into the wilderness during day light hours. Try your hand at dog sledding, riding behind a sprinting team of Alaska huskies through the boreal forest. Or for an even more exhilarating ride, jump onto a snowmobile and power yourself off into the winter landscapes. Other “self-propelled” options for exploring the terrain surrounding Borealis Basecamp include fat tired bikes and snowshoes which you can check out from the main lodge.

Day 4

Winter Rejuvenation

Your luxurious private igloo serves as your cozy basecamp during your time at the lodge. Simple and elegant European decor provide the perfect setting for daytime relaxation after a late night of aurora viewing. Or you may choose to venture into yurt of one of your travel companions to enjoy a board game together, or share stories as you await the return of the northern lights.

Locally-sourced ingredients are used to create delicious meals at Borealis and are included in your stay and served in the lodge’s restaurant Latitude 65, providing a true Alaskan dining experience. Sustainable Alaskan seafood and fresh local produce create truly gourmet entrees such as reindeer medallions and Alaskan king crab. Dinner at the Basecamp offers time to relax in the lodge’s tranquil atmosphere and serves as a prelude to a night of aurora viewing.

Day 5

Basecamp Farewell

Sleep in after your late night of aurora viewing and enjoy one last breakfast with your travel companions. Your private driver/guide will greet you in the early afternoon for your transfer back to Fairbanks. After you arrive, you can visit the Morris Thompson Visitor’s Center or the Museum of the North if you have time before catching your departing flight or continuing on to your next Alaskan adventure.

Domes feature two twin beds or one king bed and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The Borealis Basecamp is located north of Fairbanks approximately 45-minutes. It is accessible by private vehicle.

The Basecamp Restaurant, Latitude 65, was opened in 2018 by Chef Easter. With over 22-years in the industry Chef Easter serves daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner with warm hospitality, featuring locally sourced dishes. Enjoy your meals overlooking the surrounding boreal forest and ridgetops. When you are not resting up after a long night of aurora viewing the Borealis Basecamp has a menu of activities that provide the opportunity to explore the winter wonderland. Jump onto a dog sled and take a ride through the forest behind a sprint team. If more speed is of interest you may join a snowmobile tour for a one-hour adventure. The lodge also provides fat-tire bikes and snowshoes to check out from the front desk for a more leisurely self-guided adventure.
