Day 3

Active Exploration of Alaskan Wilderness on Sea & Land

Your custom Alaska itinerary is filled with opportunities for active exploration, both in intriguing ports of call and in remote wilderness areas. The M/V Misty Fjord carries expedition craft that enable you to get even closer to the land and sea. The Demaree Inflatable Boats (DIBs) are rigid bottom inflatables, which are called upon for shallow-water and glacial fjord exploration. These nimble vessels are also used as beach landing craft to allow remote hiking opportunities in areas not accessible to larger craft.

Kayaks are also great options for exploring the wilds of the Inside Passage – and for bringing you closer to the wildlife call this area home.  Wave at a harbor seal or stare in awe at a feeding whale.  The opportunities are only limited by your imagination.

Finish your day with a bonfire on the beach before boarding your private expedition vessel for the evening.

Day 4

Icy Strait and Glacier Bay National Park

Each day provides new opportunities and adventure as you awake with different views.  Almost every experience aboard the Misty Fjord will include the wildlife-rich waters of Icy Strait, renowned for phenomenal humpback whale viewing.  These are common summer breeding grounds for these magnificent animals where you are very likely to see numerous tail flaps or even a breaching whale.

Glacier Bay National Park is only one of the eight National Parks in Alaska, and it’s hard to imagine they get any bigger! At 3.3 million acres Glacier Bay National Park is the fourth largest in Alaska and is best known for its many tidewater glaciers.  Your private expedition vessel will bring you into the heart of the park for your choice of activities.  Access the beach by inflatable boat with your expedition leader and hike enjoy a beach trek or hike a rainforest trail.  The opportunities are endless and the scenery is beyond comparison.

Day 5

Margerie Glacier and Wildlife Viewing

Margerie Glacier is one of the Glacier Bay National Park’s crown jewels, known for its active glacier calving. Enjoy the views from your private vessel as you watch – and listen! – for huge chunks of ice calving into the water below.  Your onboard naturalist guide can share the biology and geography of the park while the True Alaskan Guide aboard will share information about the lifestyles and legends of the cultures that call Southeast Alaska home.

Glacier Bay National Park is also a pristine habitat for a wide array of wildlife. Brown and black bears can be found within the park, as well as wolves, mountain goats, and humpback whales.  Keep your binoculars handy as you scour the coastline and water surface for sights of the many creatures that call this area home.

Day 6

Cultural Heritage and Enrichment

A deeper level of understanding is exactly what is needed to gain a true appreciation of this unique region. To this end, the vessels are staffed with knowledgeable expedition leaders who act as personal guides on every voyage. Your personal naturalists focus on the biology, geography, and ecology of the Inside Passage, while Cultural Heritage Guides are well versed in the lifestyle, legends, and practices of Southeast Alaska’s intriguing cultures. Having these guides by your side for every step of your journey – from kayak expeditions to dining – ensures no question will ever go unanswered.

Day 7

Disembark and Depart Juneau

Breakfast is included onboard the M/V Misty Fjord before the ship docks in Juneau for debarkation. Say goodbye to your hosts before meeting your driver for private transfer to the Juneau Airport for your departing flight.

Amenities, nearby adventures and more...

Price range:  $1500 - $2000 per person, per day

Main Ship

The 60-foot M/V Misty Fjord was specifically designed for in-depth wilderness exploration of Southeast Alaska. Her hull is based on the design of well-proven Alaska commercial fishing boats for supreme comfort and stability while sailing the waters of the Inside Passage. The onboard experience features a plush interior with an elegant teak finish, aft salon, a spacious wheelhouse, and an outer deck engineered for optimal wildlife viewing.

Cabins

A total of 5 staterooms can accommodate up to 10 passengers. Each room is approximately 85 square feet. All rooms have a private head and shower, and can accommodate 2 guests. Cabins include pillow-topped mattresses, fresh towels and linens, complimentary use of binoculars, daily room service, including evening turndown, and complimentary Alaska-made body washes and shampoo.

Most itineraries begin in Sitka, ending in Juneau, or vice versa.  Both small communities are only accessible by air or sea, with no road access in or out.  Sitka derives it’s name from the Tlingit phrase meaning “People on the Outside of Baranof Island.”  Juneau is Alaska’s state capital and the only state capital completely cut off by the surrounding land.

Meals feature a variety of menu options, including meat, seafood, and vegetarian selections. Much of the seafood you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy will have been caught just days prior by local fishing vessels. The catch is immediately chilled and delivered to buyers, preserving its superior flavor and texture. Such locally harvested specialties include king salmon, halibut, rockfish, shrimp, and crab- cooked and prepared to a standard any Alaskan would recommend. Guests can enjoy early-riser pastries every morning as well as appetizers prior to dinner, non-alcoholic beverages, and one complimentary glass of house wine or beer at dinner.

Your experience in Alaska’s Inside Passage will be whatever you make of it.  The itineraries are filled with opportunities for active exploration, both in intriguing ports of call and in remote wilderness areas. Travel by expedition craft or kayak along the sea or pull up to a coastal beach for a land-based exploration.  It’s small size enables the M/V Misty Fjord to bring up up close and personal to a variety of expeditions so you can make the most of your time in these waters.  And to ensure the utmost in comfort in all weather conditions, complimentary use of onboard gear includes rain jackets, rain pants, and rain boots.
