Day 1

Arrive in Anchorage

Welcome to Anchorage! After landing in Alaska’s largest city meet your private driver/guide and transfer to your Anchorage hotel for the evening. Depending on your arrival time you may wish to explore the city a little with the help of your friendly driver/guide.

Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2

Travel from Anchorage to Kennicott

Enjoy breakfast before meeting your private driver/guide in the hotel lobby for your journey to Chitina, located at the edge of Wrangell St. Elias National Park. In Chitina, you’ll board a small plane for a short flight to McCarthy/Kennicott. The balance of the day is at your leisure to explore this historic Alaska copper mine and local community. Tonight enjoy a delicious welcome dinner as you take in the scenery from the lodge’s dining room windows.

Overnight at the Kennicott Glacier Lodge, your home for the next two nights.

Day 3

Explore Root Glacier and the Kennicott Copper Mine

After breakfast, get ready for an all-day adventure exploring nearby glaciers and Kennicott’s historic mine. Spend half a day hiking on the massive Root Glacier with an expert guide before exploring the historic buildings of Kennicott Mine this afternoon on a guided history walk. The mine was once home to one of the richest known concentrations of copper ore in the world and has a fascinating story to tell. This evening, enjoy the peace and quiet while you relax and enjoy the views from the lodge.

Day 4

Flightsee over Wrangell-St Elias to The Lodge at Black Rapids

Spend the morning at the lodge before returning to Chitina via small plane, flying over Wrangell St. Elias National Park.

Your private driver/guide will meet you upon landing for your journey to the Lodge at Black Rapids along the Richardson Highway, Alaska’s oldest highway. At the Lodge at Black Rapids, you will be greeted by your friendly lodge hosts and enjoy a delicious dinner. After dinner, practice your photography skills with a professional photographer before tucking in for the evening.

Overnight at The Lodge at Black Rapids, your home for the next three nights.

Day 5

Choose Your Adventures in the Alaska Range

A stay at the Lodge at Black Rapids always includes a variety of active adventures that can be tailored to your specific interests, the weather, and to your energy level. Take a hike to Cantwell Glacier while learning about the geology of the region. Once you arrive, you will be treated to views of a magnificent ice cave, a truly unique experience. Other activities you might enjoy include water activities on Black Rapids Lake, a visit to a sled  dog kennel, or a magnificent flightseeing tour with the potential for a glacier landing. Your hosts at the Lodge at Black Rapids are sure to exceed your expectations at this exceptional Alaska luxury lodge.

Day 6

Soak in The Lodge at Black Rapids

Today continue your adventurous pursuits or choose a more leisurely lodge-based experience. Practice your photography skills with an expert, soak in the warmth of a timber-lined sauna and take a dip in the wood-fired hot tub, or just relax and read a book in the welcoming living room. If you want to stretch your legs, you are welcome to take a leisurely walk on the extensive hiking trail system at the lodge with a guide who will teach you all about the landscape and animals that call this area home.

Tonight, use the spotting wildlife spotting telescopes at dusk to search for moose as they come out to look for food. Then, roast a few marshmallows over an open fire pit before heading back to your rooms for one final rest in this magical place.

Day 7

Travel from The Lodge at Black Rapids to Fairbanks

Say goodbye to your hosts at Black Rapids after breakfast this morning. The Lodge will provide a transfer by vehicle to Fairbanks, through the farming community of Delta Junction. Stops for sightseeing will be made along the way as your lodge host provides a local’s perspective on this unique area, not traveled by many. After arriving in Fairbanks enjoy a brief city tour before checking into your hotel for the evening.

Overnight in Fairbanks.

Day 8

Depart Fairbanks

After breakfast, a private transfer will bring you to the Fairbanks Airport to meet your departing flight.
