Your Aurora Adventure Headquarters
The Borealis Basecamp is a premier eco lodge located just outside of Fairbanks, the “Aurora Capital” of the world. While not technically a ‘lodge,’ the Basecamp is the only place in Alaska that offers luxurious igloos that feature transparent ceilings to maximize viewing opportunities. The Basecamp’s small size provides a uniquely personal viewing experience that is unmatched elsewhere in Alaska.
The basecamp began with one man’s dream and a passion to share the unforgettable scenery with the rest of the world. There are 10 individual domes and a Main Lodge for day excursions and aurora viewing. Meals are served at the on-site full-service restaurant.
Each dome is designed for two people and is furnished with an en-suite bathroom, kitchenette, and a simple yet elegant Northern European design that beckons you to relax. Two twin beds or a king bed can be requested for your stay.
The Borealis Basecamp is accessible via road year-round and is located 35 min north of Fairbanks.
Meals at the basecamp are served in the newly-built full-service restaurant. Guests may enjoy meals with views of the Wickersham Dome and the White Mountains. Breakfast is included and features a continental spread with fresh juice, coffee and tea. For lunch and dinner, guests can enjoy local flavors with a European twist. Fresh and hearty meals are perfect after a day of Alaskan adventure. If you are looking for a private dining experience, any meal option can be ordered and delivered to your igloo.
During the day while you’re awaiting the next aurora show, the basecamp offers quintessential Alaskan activities right out of your igloo’s front door. Winter gear and snow shoes are available for a bit of exploring Alaska’s backcountry on your own. Other options include dog mushing, ice fishing, snow machining, or aurora photography lessons given by a local expert. Nightly aurora viewing is available at the basecamps’ Alaskan made yurt where hot drinks are offered to keep you warm.
