The Last Great Race on Earth

The world-famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race is scheduled for the first weekend in March every year and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. While this private touring program is timed to take advantage of the scheduled Iditarod activities, you can also include a variety of other Alaskan winter elements to make the most of your visit.

Spend the day exploring Anchorage and the winter festivities with your private vehicle and driver/guide. This evening, attend the Iditarod musher’s banquet and watch the mushers draw for their starting positions.

Friday: Anchorage

Enjoy another day of sightseeing, this time heading south along scenic Turnagain Arm for a visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. A visit to the resort town of Girdwood provides an opportunity for tram ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska.

Saturday: Ceremonial Race Start

The day's excitement begins just blocks from your hotel on Anchorage's 4th Avenue. Here mushers will line up to begin their 1,000+ mile trek to Nome. This afternoon continue enjoying the downtown winter festivities.

Sunday: Official Race Start

From Anchorage travel by private vehicle with your driver/guide to the Big Lake area Here is where the 'official' race actually begins. Watch the mushers and their 16-dog teams run through the chute as they begin their journey north to Nome. After the last musher has departed continue your journey north to the quaint community of Talkeetna for a relaxed evening.

Monday: Talkeetna

Enjoy a leisurely morning before heading back to Anchorage. This afternoon your driver/guide will lead you on a private city tour of Alaska's largest city.

Tuesday: Depart Anchorage

After breakfast at your hotel, a private transfer will be provided to the Anchorage airport for your departure flight.
